Meridian Line near Ravensthorpe
Just 4 kms west of Ravensthorpe we came across the WA Meridian time line.

THE WORKING WIFE
"You're lucky you don't have to work"
The City wife said to me
Just what do you do all day?
You're so lucky to be free
I sometimes wonder to myself
Just what I really do
There seems to be so many jobs
And I seem to do so few
Could you spare a minute dear
I can't manage on my own
Two hours later I return
To use the telephone
Would you go to town love,
and pick me up a part?
Can you come & give me a tow?
That damed old truck won't start
Could you drive the tractor please?
While I go home for seed
And bring me down my dinner love
And all the fuel I need
And will you help to pick the stumps
For just a week or two?
I suppose the more we pick this time
Leaves less next year to do
Up the sheep yard next, he cries
Amid the dust & heat
Trying to get some sense out of
Those stupid things called sheep
There's tailing & there's mulesing
Could you shedhand too?
There's dipping & there's drenching
So many jobs to do
And somewhere in between all this
There's animals to be fed
And there's housework to be done
Before I go to bed
And to the city wife who works I say
You're still one step above
You get paid for the job you do
I do mine for love!

Hopetoun
Saturday 20th headed off again towards Ravensthorpe. Disaster struck when we were about 40kms out of town. Big bang & flapping noise. Bugger we had done the right inside back tyre (dual) shredded it to pieces (whole tread gone!!). Luckily Bob was driving & he managed to slow down & we were able to pull off the highway into a clearing. Had to unpack all the weight from that side of the van (place looked like a tip!!) It was very hot, windy & soooooo many flies & Bob had to try & change the tyre. He was almost done when a couple driving past saw that he may need help so they turned around & came to the rescue. Once he had some heavy weight help it was done & dusted in no time. Once we repacked the van & thanked the people for stopping we were on our way to Ravensthorpe. These were the tyres that Bullara station put on the van, so they were only just a year old.
Bought some supplies & headed for the coast.
Sunday had lunch in local cafe......Sunday roast for $15 & yummie

Witchwae in the Hopetoun car wash!!! Think it's been a very long time since it had a nice bath!!!

Munglinup beach
After spending 2 days at the Duke of Orleans bay, headed back into Esperance for supplies. Next stop Quadji beach, spent the night there, but it was a bit closed in for my liking. Tuesday 16th headed to Stokes Inlet which was really nice & they have replaced all the facilities recently so everything nice & new. Think we might have christened the dunnies!!!!
Wednesday 17th off to Munglinup beach, another gem. Reef off the beach so makes a lagoon nice & safe for swimming, although water is still freezing. Spent 3 nights here @ $10 per van per night. 1/2 way between Esperance & Ravensthorpe

Fine specimen of a MAN !!! Himself posing in the budgie smugglers !!!

Moon's up

Witchwae & glorious sunset clouds

Mauve wildflower & bee

Sunset clouds

Jan & the sun shade. We have had this shade for 3 years & this is the first time we have erected it. Must say it took us at least 3/4 hour to get the gist of putting up. It stood up to the gale force wind blowing on the beach

Just love this. Swallows had made a nest in the ladies toilet & there was no paper & no-one removed the eggs from the only roll available. They say possession is 9/10 of the law. Go the Swallows!!

Bob posing in the shade!!!

Went for a long walk around the rocks

Jet flew over -- flight to somewhere maybe Adelaide or Melbourne,

Just love this shot of this most recognisable Aussie Icon @ sunet

Duke of Orleans bay
After leaving Cape Le Grand on Saturday 13th Nov, we headed further east 60km to Duke of Orleans bay, about as far as we can go before we hit to much gravel road.

"HAPPY FEET" -- BOB BLUE PENQUIN !!!!!

Wharton beach about 3 kms from the caravan park "The Duke", rode our bikes out here & spent the morning lazing in the sun, as the beach was protected from the wind

Quondong tree
While we were free camping one night somewhere along the roadside, we came across a couple of Quondong trees (native peach). Not sure how they make jam from them, as it was all seed & no flesh.
There's a verse about them in the song "Mallee Boy"
There's nothing so rare as a Quondong tree.
Grandma made some jam for my brother & me, it's like the Mallee fowl you hardly ever see.
Do do do do do I don't mind if you call me a Mallee boy!!!
