Hahndorf in Adelaide hills

Hahndorf is a special place in OZ. Established by a tight-knit group of Prussian settlers in 1839 & is the oldest original non-English migrant settlement. A group of German speaking Lutherans, just 52 families, fleeing religious persecution in Eastern Europe. They made the long treacherous journey on a ship called "Zebra" under the command of Captain Dirk Hahn a Dane. He befriended the families & helped them to arrange the lease of land for their settlement. The settlers were so appreciative they named the village after him, hence the name Hahndorf.!!!

It's a lovely village but I was abit disappointed as I thought there would be more shops selling a wide range of German sausages (fritz - hanging from the rafters)!! & loads of smelly cheeses & yummie breads, pickles & pork knuckles.
