Murray Bridge

Murray bridge is 75kms from Adelaide & the largest town on the Murray in SA.

The local Aboriginal tribe called the area "Moop-pol-tha-wong" which means "haven for birds"

The first bridge to span the Murray was built in 1879 & was joined by a rail bridge in 1925.
Old Murray bridge railway bridge + road bridge in back ground.

Captain Proud river boat takes visitors on cruises up the river

There are 29 sunken paddle steamers & barges along this part of the river

Captain Proud out on the river

In days gone by, they had a floating priest, that went up & down the river tending to needs of the isolated people & families along the river

Murray river showboat. Bus load of oldies arrived & boarded the boat & took off for a lazy afternoon on the river

Streetscape, I just love all the verandahs on the buildings
