Waikeri -- home for the next week

Waikerie is 174 kms from Adelaide. The name Waikerie means "many wings" after the giant swift moth "wei kari". Established in 1894 when first settlers arrived by paddle steamer. Large fruit plantings now surround the farming community, oranges, grapes, peaches & thriving township, population 5114

Arrived in Waikeri on Wednesday afternoon & booked into caravan park. Needed a shower after a couple days of "bird baths". We will be doing a short housesitting job here for 6 days starting next Sunday.

Bob beer in hand on a stroll down to riverfront

PS Murray River Queen is now part of the caravan park & has a cafe, accommodation & function centre

Lions park!!!

On Thursday went to meet our new housesit owners who live 5 kms on the other side of the river via the ferry crossing. Bronwyn & Ian live on 40 acres with 150M of river frontage. They are a really lovely friendly couple who have just sold the local bakery after 40 years & looking forward to retirement & getting a life after working 7 days a week for years.

We have 2 Siberian huskies, old labrador, 2 cats & 30 chooks to look after. Went for lunch & didn't leave moved straight into guest bedroom!!!
