Walker Flat

After leaving Mannum this morning with took the scenic route along the river through small villages (just a few shacks really) places like Bowhill, Purnong, Younghusband to Walker Flat.

This is our next free camp @ the boat ramp. Walker Flat is one of the most spectacular spots on the river, with tall ochre coloured cliffs & great lookout. General store, free ferry crossing & 45 river shacks that have been there since the year dot!!!

Love this houseboat check out the small Suzuki on the deck + a motorbike. Now that's travelling in style

Bob cooking breakie the next morning

Big Bend the area along this part of the river is renowned for its towering cliffs, including BIG BEND which boasts the tallest cliffs along the entire length of the Murray. Rich in fossils, flora & fauna. Big Bend is believed to be up to 20 million years old.

There is a tour company that does "Big Bend by Night" where they bring you out to riverside shearers shed just on sunset to watch the colours change on the cliffs & then serve up gourmet dinner & wine with all the trimmings. Sounds like heaps of fun

Another Eco cruise boat taking passengers up & down the river
