Beltana Ghost town

After finishing our cold beer @ Prairie hotel, headed north up the highway for 35kms & turned off to check out Beltana ghost town

13kms off the highway this largely deserted town is now State Heritage area. It was here that John Flynn worked as a clergyman in the Smith of Dunesk mission before eventually establishing the Australian Inland mission & Royal Flying Doctors service.

Some of the great inland explorations left from Beltana, a repeater station for Overland Telegraph was established here & Beltana was the base for sheep & camel breeding giants Thomas Elder & Robert Barr Smith.
