Leigh creek was auctioned off (even the morgue) & rebuilt further south in the
1980's to make way for a major coal mine. SA generates about 40% of its electricity from Leigh creek coal. Almost daily the mine fills a 2.8km long train with nearly 10,000 tonnes of brown coal bound for the Port Augusta power station
