After staying in Kalgoorlie for the weekend we headed back up the highway 200kms to Kookynie "A living Ghost town". It is approx 30kms off the the main road & last 9kms gravel. In 1907 it had a population of 3500 & 100 years later 20 people in residence. Once upon a time it had 11 pubs, Town hall & held regular dances on Saturday nights, 1st swimming pool on goldfields, Turf club, brewery & 2 soft drink factories.
Lunch at the Grand hotel, very nice burger & chips & couple ice cold beers to help wash down the dust ???? I think the only thing living in Kookynie is the Publican & his wife!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently Kookynie had 2 "RED LIGHT" areas, one behind the Grand hotel which is opposite the railway station!!! & one between the police station & a church!!!!
