Gwalia is 4kms south of Leonora. It was an underground gold mine & these are some of the houses that the miners lived in. When the mine closed down in 1963, the people mostly Italians & Yugoslavs left on a special train sent from Kalgoorlie & this is how the town was left. The locals from Leonora have taken on the responsibility have preserving the houses & have restored them to how they think they were left.
