Niagara dam

Back down the road from the Grand hotel we decided to camp for a few days @ Niagara dam. It was built to supply water for the townships in the area & also the steam trains. It took 1 year to build @ cost of 42,000 pounds in 1897. It had only been completed a short time when underground water was found @ Kookynie & it was never used. It certainly makes a fantastic free camp site these days.

Jan on dam wall.

Bob ready to hit the trail & do the "Round the dam walk"

Read a sign that said there were "Yabbies" in dam. Bob decided to try his luck. I guess yabbies don't like old snags........still waiting for a feed !!!
