Goongarrie Sheep station

90kms north of Kalgoorlie is Goongarrie sheep station. It was first known as "Roaring Gimlet" due to the sound of the cold south-westerly winds roaring thru the gimlet trees & also as "Ninety Mile" due to the distance from Coolgardie. The lease was taken up in 1924, 100,686 hectare station but was never fully developed due to lack of fresh water supplies. It was bought by DEC in 1995 & is now a camp spot or the homestead & other buildings available for groups to hire. Normally there is camp hosts looking after the place during the season, but luckily for us no one was there so we got a freebie!!!
